Easyin

Website redesign for a suburban housing concept

Easyin is a housing concept created by Kastelli, the market leader in single-family house construction in Finland.
Easyin rebranded
This project was one part of a larger rebrand of the Easyin visual identity. A modernised look to replace the somewhat clumsy visuals that came before.
When I started work on the website, the visual identity and the brand guidelines were mostly finished. Together with the team, we started work on the website by mapping out the information architecture.
After figuring out what goes where, I started by creating designs for some key pages in Sketch that we would later present to the client for approval.
Early on I noticed that the brand colours would cause accessibility issues and we ended up tweaking them to improve contrast. At the time I kept thinking that it would be better to consider something like the WCAG earlier in the process while making decisions about the brand colours. Of course, you can tweak the colours like we did or just use different colours entirely, but neither seems like the ideal solution for me.
To cut a long story short, after the initial designs were approved by the client, I went on to create the remaining layouts and eventually handed them off for development.
Looking back
Easyin was one of a handful of websites I worked on during my time at Luova Työmaa. Before it, I had only worked on smaller-scale projects, so Easyin gave me a good chance to learn more about what it's like to work on a larger one – and a larger team for that matter.
Browsing through the website now, I see many things I would like to have done differently and a bunch wonkiness that sneaked in during development – which makes me think I should have been more actively involved in the project after I was done with the laytouts.
I like to think I have improved as a designer since, but working more closely with developers through the entire lifespan of the project is something I'd like to pay attention to in the future.
